Summer Madness

YOOOOOOOO EVERYONE!!

I hope we are all enjoying our summer! In the city of T-Dot it’s for sure been a beautiful one. Nothing but sunshine & I think despite some of the complaining I hear (you won’t hear any from me) most of us would rather the sun stay & never leave. It’s been a LONG time since I’ve checked Blog-sphere I know, but level with me cause spring and summer have been mad busy. Let’s get into it.

First off: Ottawa. We had a great time at the National Arts Centre.  There is so much rich history in that theatre complex, proof that only the finest shows make it to Ottawa’s NAC. Actors and performers from Keifer Sutherland to Leslie Neilson we’re on their wall of fame & feel very humble to be apart of that legacy! I think I can was a huge success there and I thank the city for all the hospitality we were shown.  I got to see Parliament, the many museums and found out all about the Byward Market. There was lots of tapping, bonding, video shooting and Lunging. I thank the people of Ottawa, The NAC, Toronto, LKTYP (now just YPT again :D ) and of course our talented cast & crew. So much love for all you, ITIC is still one of my favorite shows and theatre experiences of all time! Love all y’all :)

3, 2, 1 LUNGE! L to R Dustyn Wales, Jennifer Stewart, Tosh Sutherland, Jamie McRoberts, Tangara Jones, Matthew G Brown, Kyle Brown, David Cox

The sweetest Beaver...tail I've ever tasted! Yes food always brings a smile that big to my face!

Next: The Toronto Return.

Well well well! When I hit the dot again it was like a crazy, lovely busy, hurricane. Auditions, Call-Backs, Workshops, Joe Jobs, everything! What I once thought I would be doing this summer was turned around and now-because of some great opportunities-I had no clue what the rest of my year would be like until the Dust settled. Once it did and I had an idea, there where some decisions to make. Hard ones, but ones necessary for what I feel could be the next step in my Career.

Announcement alert…

At the end of the day I was accepted to and choose to join the Actors Conservatory at the CFC! For those who don’t know, the CFC is the Canadian Film Centre and it’s a training ground and jumping off point for many of Canada’s successful film makers. In the last three years they’ve been training actors to be confident and successful actors and actress. They pick 8 people a year to study for 6 months and I was blessed enough to be selected. I can’t tell you how honored, humbled and excited I am for this opportunity. Some of the wonderful people I’m going to work with for the next few months has me stoked! Of course I will be updating you on all of the happenings over the next few months so stay tuned to the blog and Twitter (@Mr_M_G_B) for constant updates. Oh and if you don’t have twitter…well…c’mon son…step yo game up!!

After a pretty good Caribana weekend I’m now ready to get to work with the CFC (The program begins tomorrow August 2nd). Today we reflect, prepare, and recover. Yeah recover, last weekend was really good. Clubs, the parade, Boat Cruises good food & good music.

Also every one should look out for a familiar face as a dancing Staples employee in a back to school commercial. I think you’ll like my moves ;) Fans of Dance and Musical Theatre will get a kick out of who else is in the commercial

I’m out y’all! As always comment here and Follow on twitter. I leave you with some wise words a man once told me…

Yep

It was written Directed and produced by me (the first time I’ve done any of those things) and I feel pretty proud of it. The idea behind it was just a joke that one of us made in the meet and greet that I decided to evolve into a short YouTube video. Dancap was gracious enough to let us use their Office Space and the Cast of I think I candid a great job in the video! The vid was shot and edited by the talented Chris James (www.greyaproductions.com). If you need someone to shoot any type of video for you I suggest you hit him up!

Introducing………THE TAP FIRM!

Now I know many of you have asked this million dollar question for many years. What IS the tap firm. Who are they? What do they do?

The truth is that the Tap firm is a not so secret society created in 2007 for the elite to improve their rhythm and lifestyle. How do you think Beyonce was able to put a ring on it? Did you really think the kids from Glee got their moves so tight without guidance? Who do you think Emmit Smith, Nicole Scherzinger and Jennifer Grey turned to for help before getting on Dancing with the stars? The tap firm has been using their skill to help Celebrities, politicians and the wealthy look good and feel comfortable on dance floors for years, but now for a limited time in Toronto and Ottawa they are releasing their secret to the world. But why type about the Tap firm when I can show you?

Click on the link below, to be introduced to the Tap Firm.

In my first post I told you I was working on Something special. This was it! :D :D :D

I Think I Can has LESS THAN A WEEK left in Toronto at LKTYP, then we head to Ottawa at the NAC! Don’t miss your chance to be stimulated by the Tap firm LIVE!!!

This has been a Public Service annocment by the good people at the Tap Firm. Still keeping it Funky like a Stank Monkey.

The third week of April…and it’s shameless self-promotion time :)

Hey there! :D

It’s time for another post! This week has been a fun one. Then again it’s always fun when your working in this biz (though I try to appreciate life all the time let’s face it, most artist are more happy when they get to showcase their talent’s. True? True).

This was another great week of performances of I Think I Can at LKTYP. For those of you not following me on my twitter account (@Mr_M_G_B) or the others who just aren’t in the know, I Think I Can is a Tap dance show I’m in right now at Lorraine Kimsa Theatre for Young People in Toronto. It’s a show for kid’s grades 4-12 and it deals with the themes of Bullying, Cooperation and Overcoming Challenges. A Dora Mavor Award winner in 2007 (a production I was also apart of) this show is guaranteed to enlighten as well as entertain. The story is told almost entirely through tap dance as the teacher is the only character who speaks. This show is such a unique experience and one you do not want to miss! Also, I’m in it and you want to come see me right? Yeaaaah I thought so :D

Our Cast includes: Kyle Brown, David Cox, Melody Johnson, Tangara Jones, Jamie McRoberts, Tammy Nera, Jennifer Stewart and Tosh Sutherland. Or as I like to call them, some of the most talented tap dancers in Canada. Yeah their that good, trust me. Oh and our Choreographer is the world renound Hip-hop and Tap Dance sensation Mr. Shawn Byfield (Owner of BDX Studio, Dora and Gemini award winner, guest star in Hairspray the movie, Turn the Beat around, Blues Brothers 2000 and Instant Star. Yes Instant Star, 10 Points if you can guess which character he was…)! You know, no Bigge :)

Yep that’s me in the Pistons Jersey, jumping for SCIENCE!!!!

Our run in Toronto ends May 5th and then we head to Ottawa from May 11th to May 28th to rock our Nation’s Capital at the National Arts Centre! For tic’s in T.O visit www.lktyp.ca or call 416-862-2222. Also Monday is a very special treat. Our Monday preformance in PAY-WHAT-YOU CAN!!! No excuses! This Easter Monday come check us out!

SPORTS MINUTE!!!!!!

So its spring and that means NBA and NHL Playoff time as well as the start of Baseball! While I sit back and hope that this will be the year the Jays finally make it out of the toughest division in sport (Sorry NFC East, Sorry Northwest Div in the NHL. We have the Yankees, Red Sox and Rays fighting over 2 playoff spots…) I’m enjoinga stellar first round both in the NHL AND NBA. To me that’s rare. Usually you get good NBA playoffs but so-so NHL rounds early or great NHL matchups but the first two rounds of the NBA playoffs are a joke. This year though: LAL losing game 1 AT HOME? BOS/MTL=instant classic? Two double OT games in the NHL in one night? How about VAN going up 3-0 only to drop the next two to a team that’s had their number for the past couple of seasons? It’s been pretty epic and it’s only gonna get better. Hold on tight sports fans, it’s gonna be a wild, wild spring. :)

Also very quickly I have to tell you your plans for this Sunday Evening. That’s right I have it alllll figured out. After you’ve devouerd Easter dinner with you Family and your going to head over to the couch, turn you TV’s to The History Channel (Canada only btw), at 9PM Eastern time and enjoy my appearance on The Kennedys! See how easy that was ;)

That’s right, this Sunday night I will be entering the role of James Meredith on the critically acclaimed Mini-Series The Kennedys! In the US it has already aired on REELZ Channel, but in Canada we’ll get to see it on Sunday. James Meredith is the first African American male to attend and graduate from a Major US University (Ole Miss).  His story is a broad one that will be touched on in this week’s episode. Meredith was one of the first people responsible for kick-starting the Civil Rights movement in the US, especially the south. I’m very happy and lucky to have been given the opportunity to play such an important historical figure. See how I did this weekend!

Starring Katie Holmes, Greg Kinnear, Tom Wilkinson, Barry Pepper and next week, ME! Directed by 24's Jon Cassar

Be sure to check your local listings for The History Channel in your area.

And there you have it! Your weekly update on me. I left alot out, but next week we’ll make it a bit more personal. Don’t forget to follow me on Twitter if you haven’t already and BTW y’all…HAPPY EASTER TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!

as Biggie once said

“Oh my time is up! Peace out to Brooklyn!”
